ニューヨークで活動している女性作家。北京の郊外に存在したアーティストのコロニー、東村に住んで、当時の多数の中国人作家の過激なパフォーマンスの写真を撮影してきた。渦中にある観察者として中国の前衛アーティストの集団とともに、現代美術の先端の状況を駆け抜けてきたが、ニューヨークに滞在してから、自分を見つめなおし、自分の作品を作り始めた。トリエンナーレの出品作品は北京とニューヨークがテーマとなって、ヴィデオプロジェクションとスライドが組み合わさった、透明感のあるインスタレーションになる。
Born in the People's Republic of China. Lives
and works in the United States.
Xing is a New York-based artist. In the early
90s, she lived in the East Village, an artist
colony in the outskirts of Beijing, and photographed
radical performances of many Chinese artists.
While living with the avant-garde artist group,
she witnessed and experienced the world of radical
contemporary art. After moving to New York, she
stopped and thought what she wanted to do next.
She soon began making her own art instead of photographing
others' art. At the "YOKOHAMA 2001," she will
create an installation using video and slide projections
on the theme of Beijing and New York. |
