中国人の父とオーストラリア人の母を持つ。88年からオランダに移り92年までアムステルダムのアカデミー、96年、97年には同地の国立美術学校に学ぶ。母国で起こった反中国人暴動によって離散した自身の家族を追うドキュメンタリー・フィルムによって内外で高い評価を受ける。しばしば既存の記録フィルムを素材に用い、過去の植民地支配による文化的な記憶について言及する。
2000年、京都国立近代美術館での「STILL＼MOVING 境界上のイメージ―現代オランダの写真、フィルム、ヴィデオ」に出品。
Born in Indonesia in 1966. Lives and works in
the Netherlands.
Tan, daughter of a Chinese father and an Australian
mother, moved to the Netherlands in 1988. She
studied at an academy in Amsterdam until 1992
and at a national art school in the city in 1996
and 1997. She was highly esteemed at home and
abroad for a documentary film of her own family
dispersed by the anti-Chinese riot in Indonesia.
Tan often uses existing documentary films to refer
to the cultural plight by colonization in the
past.
Exhibitions in Japan: "Still/Moving - Contemporary
Photography, Film and Video from The Netherlands"
at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto in
2000.
