生と死、肉体と観念といった根源的な問題への思索に深く依拠した作品を制作しているアーティストたちだが、この展覧会では両者の共作が出品される。人体から採取された脂を滲ませた千枚の紙を銅板で装丁した巨大な本に仕立てたもので、生命の象徴である脂と記録や歴史の含意を有する本とを、荘厳な雰囲気を漂わせるオブジェとして一体化させた作品である。
2000年リヨン・ビエンナーレ参加。
Sun Yuan: Born in 1972. Peng Yu: Born in 1973.
Both born in the People's Republic of China, and
live and work in Beijing.
Sun Yuan and Peng Yu both create their art musing
on our fundamental issues, for example, "life
and death" and "body and spirit." These two artists
will collaborate in the YOKOHAMA 2001. They will
apply grease from the human body to 1,000 sheets
of paper and bind the sheets into a huge book
in copperplate. The grease symbolizes life and
the book connotes history and recording. These
will be incorporated into a sublime object.
