Born in the United States in 1956. Lives and works
in the United States.
Grigely makes art with "inscribed conversations,"
conversations that he holds with people in writing
because of his impaired hearing. He makes collages
with these written conversations, or room installations
containing the pieces of paper and other "conversational
objects," objects such as tables which formed
part of the setting of a conversation. Using written
conversations as a means of communication, he
humorously reveals "invisible differences" that
separate people.
International exhibitions: Venice Biennale, "TransCulture,"
1995, Sidney Biennale, 1998.
