ギリックの作品は、しばしば未完成であるかのように見えるインスタレーションである。様々なオブジェやフィルム、脚本などがそれぞれ関連を持って配置されているが、観客は知識と想像力を働かせ、その意味を自身で探らなければならない。彼の呈示するテーマや情報は、ある部分は事実、ある部分はフィクションであるため、そのゲームの中に観客も取り込まれ、参加することになるのである。観客参加型の手法としては新しいタイプの作品として、90年代後半に注目を集めてきた。
国際展：96年「Life/Live」展（パリ市立近代美術館）、97年ドクメンタに参加。

Gillick's installations often appear incomplete.
His arrangements of numerous and varied items
such as objects, film and screenplays leave it
up to viewers to use their own knowledge and imagination
to search for the meaning of the work. The information
presented is partly factual and partly fictional,
drawing viewers into the artist's game and forcing
them to participate in the work. Gillick became
known in the mid-nineties for a new type of art
requiring viewer-participation.
