漆黒に焦げた木塊、分厚い鉄板、滝のように流れ落ちる水といった原初的な物質のありようへの深い想像力によって、重厚な観念性を帯びた作品を制作し続けてきたアーティスト。このトリエンナーレでは、高い壁で囲まれた部屋の中央の穴から水が湧き上がり、床一面を満たして流れ落ちて行くという、大規模なインスタレーションを試みる。この円形の暗い湧水口は太古の闇から時代を貫いて現代へと吹き上げてくる、不穏な泉でもあるだろう。
87年ドクメンタ、90年ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ日本代表、94年サンパウロ・ビエンナーレ、2000年光州ビエンナーレに参加。

Endo makes deep and conceptual works with his
profound imagination for the being of primitive
things, such as wood burnt black, thick iron plates
and water pouring down like a waterfall. Endo
will make a large-scale installation at the YOKOHAMA
2001. He will set up a room surrounded by high
walls. In the center of the room, water springs
out. The water covers the floor and flows down.
The circular outlet of water is dark. It is an
ominous spring that connects our time to the darkness
of ancient times.
International exhibitions: Documenta in 1987,
Venice Biennale in 1990 representing Japan, Sao
Paulo Biennale in 1994, and Kwangju Biennale in
