16mmフィルム、黒板にチョークで描いたドゥローイングなど、様々なメディアを使った作品を制作している。船、海、旅といったテーマに基づき、時間の経過とともに、何らかの真実を明らかにしていく過程を重要なものと考えている。その過程においてあらわれる物語は単純ながら観客の想像力を刺激する、詩的で知的な作品となる。
96年テート・ギャラリー（ロンドン）、98年フィラデルフィアＩＣＡなどで個展を開催、98年の「ターナー賞」候補作家となる。
日本では99年「HOT AIR」展（静岡グランシップ）に参加。
Born in England in 1965. Lives and works in England.
Dean uses a variety of media in her art, especially
16mm film and chalkboard drawings. Employing themes
of the ocean, ships, and voyages, she focuses
on the process by which truth is gradually revealed
over time. She turns the stories that emerge through
this process into intelligent, poetic works of
art that are both simple and stimulating to the
viewer.

the Tate Gallery, London, 1996, and ICA, Philadelphia,
1998, candidate for the Turner Prize, 1998.
