Michelangelo Pistoletto

Born 1933 in Biella, Italy. Lives and works in Biella.

Pistoletto began training under his father, a restorer, and also began painting. He accomplished a mirror picture using a sheet of stainless steel polished like a mirror. From around 1968, he aimed at ideological works employing simple materials available in everyday life and became known as an Arte Povera artist. He established the Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto and has been advocating the fusion of wide-ranging fields such as politics, economics, science, industry, education, or sociology with art.
