Ono Yoko
Ono Yoko (Japan)
Born 1933 in Tokyo. Lives and works in New York.
After entering Gakushuin University in 1952, Ono emigrated to the U.S. and studied musical composition and poetry. From 1960, she began working based in New York and took part in the avant-garde art group Fluxus. She moved to London and married Beatles member John Lennon in 1969. The messages of "freedom" and "peace" she has been releasing consistently are the starting point of her art, which calls for active communication. Her activities have been gaining more and more recognition in recent years.
