Barney is one of the world's leading contemporary artists. Since his 1991 solo exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Art, he has been active internationally in the fields of fine art and film. Employing metaphors from wide-ranging fields including biology and psychoanalysis, he has consistently pursued the theme of physical transformation. Barney's sculptures, installations, and performances become the chief components in his film work.
